Uganda have joined Namibia from the African region to qualify for the ICC T20 World Cup 2024.

The T20 World Cup 2024 is all set to take place in the USA and the West Indies. This tournament will be bigger as compared to the previous editions played so far. It is because a total of 20 teams will take part in this tournament. Four groups will be divided into five teams each. Two teams from each group will make it to the Super 8.

The Super 8 will be divided into two groups of four, and the top two teams from each group will make it to the semi-finals of the tournament. Before November 30 (Thursday), 19 teams qualified for the tournament, and the race for 20th place was between Uganda and Zimbabwe. Both played a game each in the ongoing ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Africa Region Qualifier 2023, and now it has been confirmed that Uganda will be the last team to join the tournament.

Uganda become the 20th team to qualify for the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 in USA & Caribbean Islands

Seven teams took part in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Africa Region Qualifier 2023, and the top two teams were supposed to make it through the African region. With five consecutive wins, Namibia have already qualified, leaving just one more spot to grab. Uganda, who played their last game against Rwanda on Thursday, beat them by 9 wickets.

With this win, they became the 20th team to qualify for the ICC T20 World Cup 2024. Zimbabwe’s last match against Kenya is underway, and even if they win it, they can’t qualify because Uganda have two more points than them. Hence, it has become a historic moment as, for the very first time in history, Uganda have qualified for any ICC event.

On the other hand, this is another heartbreak for Zimbabwe, as earlier they missed the chance to feature in the recently concluded ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 in India. This will be the second consecutive time that they will miss an ICC event.

Teams for the ICC T20 World Cup 2024: West Indies (H), USA (H), Australia, India, England, New Zealand, Pakistan, South Africa, Sri Lanka, Netherlands, Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Ireland, Scotland, Papua New Guinea, Canada, Nepal, Oman, Namibia, and Uganda.
