3 uncapped Indian players who could get an opportunity in IND vs AFG T20Is

India might be aiming to strengthen their second-string squad before the Asian Games.

India are undergoing a phase of transition across all formats. After an upsetting assignment against Ireland and England, the T20I assignment against Afghanistan could provide India with an opportunity to assess players who have performed consistently in domestic cricket.

With the Indian selectors also keeping an eye on workload management and fitness of established stars, this may be the right time for younger players to be roped into the Indian side. The Afghanistan series is scheduled to begin on September 13 in Delhi, followed by matches on September 15 and 17. 

As the series is around the corner, we take a look at three stars who could get opportunity in the series.

3. Ayush Badoni

The Delhi-born right-handed batter has steadily built a reputation for himself across all three formats of the game. He is a dependable middle-order batter and can score runs quickly towards the back end. The Delhi batter has been part of the Lucknow Super Giants and the India A team on previous occasions, and has impressed selectors with his performance. 

He was included in India’s 2026 ODI setup recently but is yet to make his debut for India. Badoni’s ability to play different roles in the middle order makes him an attractive option to the Indian selectors. His part-time role as an off-spinner provides additional options with the ball. 

2. Prabhsimran Singh

Prabhsimran Singh is another player who could come into consideration if India decide to add a new wicket-keeper, moving away from Sanju Samson, whose performance has not been impressive after the heroics during the T20 World Cup in 2026. 

The Punjab batter has been a very consistent performer in the domestic circuit and a prominent performer in the recent seasons of the IPL. He is best suited to India’s recently adopted aggressive approach at the top of the order. 

Prabhsimran has also featured in a few India A games, where he was among the few players monitored carefully for the highest honours. He was also picked in India squad for Zimbabwe T20Is, but didn’t get an opportunity to play.

1. Harsh Dubey

When it comes to uncapped players, Harsh Dubey has emerged as one of India’s biggest contenders in recent times. Dubey could be the most intriguing among the three players, taking his domestic form into consideration. 

The left-arm spin-bowling all-rounder has already received recognition from the selectors, having earned a maiden India call-up earlier in 2026. He made his India debut in the ODI series against Afghanistan earlier this year. 

Dubey’s true value comes from his ability to contribute significantly in both departments. A left-arm spinner and lower-order batter, Dubey can help India revive from their crisis of all-rounders who are doubtful either due to fitness concerns or due to poor performance. 

With Hardik Pandya’s availability for the Afghanistan series now uncertain and Axar Patel’s performance taking a major dip in T20Is, India could look to make additions to the all-rounder deck.
