Rohit Sharma scored 52 runs in India’s second innings in Bengaluru before getting out in an unfortunate fashion.

Luck has deserted the Indian cricket team in the ongoing IND vs NZ test match in Bengaluru. After being on the wrong side of the conditions on day 2 while both batting and bowling, frustrations mounted further for captain Rohit Sharma on day 3 when he got out in an extremely unlucky and rare manner.

India had conceded a first-innings deficit of 356 runs as Rachin Ravindra cracked a century and Tim Southee blasted a fifty.

Still, the hosts were not out of the game as the conditions were good for batting and certainly much better than what they faced in their first innings.

This was proven as Rohit and Yashasvi Jaiswal played their strokes with ease in their brisk opening partnership of 72 runs in 17.1 overs.

While Jaiswal threw away his wicket, getting stumped after dancing down the pitch in the aim to thump a boundary, Sharma looked determined to convert his start into a big one, not least because his side needed him to cut down the deficit too.

With eight fours and a six, Rohit reached his half-century off 59 balls but soon after, he got out in a bizarre fashion to spinner Ajaz Patel.

With a front-foot defensive shot, Sharma blocked a harmless delivery on off-stump from Ajaz. However, the ball hit the inner slice of the bat, sneaked in the small bat-pad gap, bounced on the ground and bobbled onto the stumps, only dislodging the bails, which was enough for a dismissal.

While the New Zealand players celebrated, the Indians – Rohit, non-striker Virat Kohli, and the fans – were left stunned, unable to grasp this bizarre dismissal.

Meanwhile, at the time of writing, India are 121/2, still trailing by 235 runs.
