Unmukt Chand shifted base to USA in 2021 and will be eligible to play for his adopted country in the ICC T20 World Cup 2024.

The ICC T20 World Cup 2024 will be played in the West Indies and the USA in the month of June. After the heartbreak of losing the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 final, Rohit Sharma and Co. will seek to make amends in the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup.

India’s ICC trophy drought continued with this loss in the ICC World Cup last year, with their last silverware coming in a ICC Champions Trophy triumph in 2013. India had a flawless entry into the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 final with 10 consecutive wins in the tournament.

This was meant to be India’s moment to break their long title drought on home turf, but the Pat Cummins-led Australia had other ideas. The Australians followed their preparations flawlessly, defeating an Indian team that had no answer for their plans.

Now India will have another chance to gain ICC glory in the T20 World Cup. The Men in Blue are pitted with Pakistan, Canada Ireland, and the USA in Group A and will play their first match on June 5 against Ireland.

‘I look forward to that clash’- Unmukt Chand on USA v India clash in T20 World Cup

India will face co-hosts USA on June 12 at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium, East Meadow, New York, and a former Indian cricketer might be a familiar face in the encounter. Unmukt Chand, India’s 2012 U19 World Cup-winning captain, relocated to the United States in 2021, and given his expertise on the big stage, he could be in a position to make his ICC tournament debut at the top level.

In an exclusive interaction with SportsNow, Chand, 30, spoke about the prospect of facing India in the T20 World Cup.

“Well if that happens and when that happens it will be very obviously I look forward to that clash. In terms of I don’t know, I mean I have played with these many of the guys who are in the Indian Team right now.

“So it’s special, it’s nice and again from a purely cricketing angle it’s something which I look forward to because India is one of the top teams in the world and you would want to face that team and so it’s also going to be like big pressure but at the same time it’s going to be challenging. So as a sport, as cricket, I think it’s going to be really nice and yeah I look forward to it man,” Chand said.
