Alyssa Healy led the UP Warriorz in WPL 2024.

Australia women’s captain and wicketkeeper Alyssa Healy has confirmed that she will miss the upcoming Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2025 season due to a stress injury in her right foot.

The keeper-batter has struggled with a recurring foot injury, which became more noticeable during the T20 World Cup in the UAE and India’s ODI tour to Australia last year.

Healy’s absence is a major setback for UP Warriorz, who finished fourth in WPL 2024 with six points and three wins from eight games. While leading UP, Healy finished as the third-highest run scorer for the team last season, making 175 runs in eight matches at a strike rate of 119.

Healy missed the T20I leg of the Women’s Ashes 2025 and was uncertain for the only test match of the series. However, she passed a fitness test, played and scored 34 runs while fielding without any noticeable issues.

Alyssa Healy on taking time off the field

After Australia’s dominant clean-sweep over England in the multi-format Women’s Ashes series, Healy spoke to the media and confirmed that she will be taking time off the field for the next two months, thus missing the WPL 2025.

Healy said, “Unfortunately for me, I’ve got a couple of months with [my] feet up, so I’m pretty bummed by that,” Healy said. “But at the same time [I am] elated to have a little bit of downtime and try and get my body right. It’s been a really frustrating probably 18 months for me.

Healy explained that frequent injuries have been frustrating, and she is looking forward to using this time to work on a few areas to improve before the WODI World Cup scheduled for August this year.

She added, “You get yourself right back playing and something else goes wrong. So [I am] just going to have a look at a couple of things and how I can be better, maybe a bit more disciplined in some areas, and make sure I’m right to go in particular for that ODI World Cup“.
