Major update on CSK’s new bowling coach for IPL 2027

Zaheer Khan recently replaced Stephen Fleming as head coach for CSK ahead of IPL 2027.
Since winning the IPL 2023, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) have gone three seasons without making it to the playoffs. They are going through a tough phase since the change in captaincy.
CSK finished the last edition in 8th spot and only recorded six wins in 14 matches. It brought a chance in the coaching setup as the franchise and long-standing coach Stephen Fleming parted ways. CSK brought in former Indian speedster Zaheer Khan as the new head coach.
He has joined the franchise for a one-year deal for the IPL 2027. And now, the franchise has added another former Indian pacer as the vacant bowling coach role. Eric Simons has also left the franchise.

Mohit Sharma is all set to join the coaching setup for CSK as bowling coach. As per reports in Times of India, new head coach Zaheer Khan has recommended the 38-year-old ahead of the IPL 2027 season start.
Mohit is all set to join CSK as the new bowling coach ahead of the IPL 2027. The decision came as a major development, as the franchise is going through the transition period after three successive seasons without a playoff appearance.
The CSK CEO Kasi Viswanathan confirmed the news in an interview with the Times of India. He said:
“Mohit will join CSK as our new bowling coach. His name was recommended by our head coach Zaheer Khan. Mohit was tremendous with us as a player as well, and we hope he will do a great job as bowling coach.”
Mohit has vast experience of competing in the IPL. He competed in 11 IPL seasons and featured in 120 matches. He took 134 wickets with a best of 5/10. Mohit played a key role for Gujarat Titans in their winning campaign of the 2023 edition.
The 38-year-old also played four seasons for CSK and won the Purple Cap for them in the 2014 season with 23 wickets. The CSK CSO further added, “The next set of coaching staff will also be recruited on Zaheer’s recommendation in the coming weeks.”
Mohit recently announced his retirement from all forms on December 3, 2025. It will be a progression in his career from cricketing days to coaching.
