IPL 2026: Major update on Jasprit Bumrah's availability in MI's opening match against KKR
Jasprit Bumrah joined MI’s camp for IPL 2026 on Friday.
Indian Premier League 2026 is set to commence on March 28 with the opening game between Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH).
Five-time champions Mumbai Indians (MI) will clash with Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in their first game on March 29 at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.
Jasprit Bumrah will lead MI’s pace attack in IPL 2026. The right-arm pacer recently underwent strength and conditioning training at BCCI’s Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru. He joined the MI’s camp on Friday, which came as a big boost for the side.
Notably, four MI players part of T20 World Cup 2026 were given an extended break before joining the MI camp. While others joined the camp last week, Bumrah checked into BCCI’s CoE in Bengaluru for a strength and conditioning test. After completing the test, he joining MI camp at Wankhede Stadium.
Jasprit Bumrah available for MI’s opening clash against KKR
MI head coach Mahela Jayawardene informed that Bumrah will be available for the opening clash against the Kolkata Knight Riders. Therefore, it will be a big boost for Hardik Pandya & Co. as Bumrah has held a spectacular form in recent times.
Earlier this month, Bumrah gave a wonderful performance for India in T20 World Cup 2026. With 14 wickets, he finished as the joint-highest wicket-taker in the tournament with Varun Chakravarthy. He also clinched a four-wicket haul in the final against New Zealand, winning the Player of the Match award.
Last season, Bumrah gave a spectacular performance for Mumbai, clinching 18 scalps in 12 games at an economy of 6.67. He was the second highest wicket-taker for the team after Trent Boult (22). MI reached the playoffs and were eliminated after losing Qualifier 2 against Punjab Kings (PBKS).
