Major update on Shreyas Iyer’s availability for CSK vs PBKS clash of IPL 2026

Shreyas Iyer was hit badly by the ball on his hand during PBKS vs GT clash of IPL 2026.

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) will face Punjab Kings (PBKS) in their first home game of Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 on Friday. Both teams are coming into this match with different momentum. CSK had a poor start to their campaign after a heavy defeat against Rajasthan Royals (RR). They will look to bounce back strongly in front of their home fans.

PBKS, on the other hand, started their season with a thrilling win over Gujarat Titans (GT). They chased down the target with just five balls to spare. However, their victory came with a concern. Captain Shreyas Iyer picked up a hand injury during the match as he was hit badly on his hand while standing at the non striker’s end.

Since then, there has been uncertainty around his availability for the upcoming clash. The PBKS captain has been seen with crepe bandage on his hands and fans and team management are closely monitoring his condition. His presence is very important for PBKS, especially against a team like CSK that will be desperate to improve.

Shreyas Iyer declared fit to play against CSK – Reports

After the match against GT, Shreyas Iyer given a small but hopeful update after the match. He said that his hand is feeling “nice” and similar to how it was before the injury. However, he also made it clear that further checks are needed. The medical team has been assessing the situation carefully since then.

PBKS management did not want to take any risks with their captain. With a long tournament ahead, player fitness is a top priority. A new update has now been received. As per a report by PTI, Shreyas Iyer is now fully fit. The captain underwent scans, which revealed no serious thing, and he is fit to play against Chennai Super Kings. 

Iyer’s role in the team is very important. He provides stability in the middle order and also leads the side with confidence. In the last game, PBKS bowlers did a great job by restricting GT to 162/6. Bowlers like Yuzvendra Chahal played a key role.

Iyer’s fitness will boost PBKS massively. But even if he had missed out, the team has enough depth to compete. Meanwhile, CSK will look to take advantage of any of PBKS’ weaknesses and register their first win of the season.
