Sitanshu Kotak drops HUGE fitness update on Rishabh Pant ahead of Day 2 of SL vs IND Colombo Test

Rishabh Pant sustained wrist injury on day one of SL vs IND Colombo Test.

The Indian Cricket Team is currently playing against Sri Lanka in the second Test match of the series. The visitors won the first match convincingly, defeating Sri Lanka by 165 runs, with Devdutt Padikkal being awarded the Player of the Match after scoring his maiden Test century.

On the first day of the second Test, India batted first again, and the first wicket fell at 37 runs when KL Rahul was dismissed. At the score of 66, his opening partner, Yashasvi Jaiswal, also departed. However, Devdutt Padikkal and Shubman Gill kept the scoreboard ticking and built a partnership of 120 runs.

Indian captain Shubman Gill departed after scoring a brilliant fifty, but Devdutt Padikkal continued scoring at the same rate and brought up his second Test century. India ended the day on 300/5.

However, there was some bad news for Indian fans as wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant was hit on his left wrist by a short ball from Lahiru Kumara in the 58th over. The physio attended him and applied an ice pack, but it wasn’t enough, and Pant had to walk off, with Ravindra Jadeja coming in to bat in his place.

It was disheartening for fans and supporters of Rishabh Pant to see him walk off, as the batter has had a long history of battling injuries. However, Indian team batting coach Sitanshu Kotak confirmed that Pant will be fit to bat on the second day of play.

Speaking at the press conference after the day’s play, Sitanshu allayed all concerns regarding Pant and confirmed that he is fit enough to bat later. He said: “Rishabh Pant will be fine to bat tomorrow.”

This update comes as a major relief for all the supporters of Pant and the India. Pant has been the backbone of India’s batting lineup over the years, especially in overseas conditions, and has always contributed to major wins for the team.

With Pant expected to resume his innings on the second day, the India will aim to post a higher total to put Sri Lanka on the back foot and gain a massive advantage in the match.
