Major update on Rohit Sharma's availability for IND vs AFG ODI series
Rohit Sharma is recovering from a hamstring injury.
India and Afghanistan are set to clash in an ODI series starting June 13. Both teams will play three games. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) picked Rohit Sharma for the series when the squad was announced last month.
However, there were doubts about his participation due to fitness issues. As you know, the right-handed batsman sustained a hamstring injury during Indian Premier League 2026. He also missed a few games during the tournament before making his comeback towards the end.
Moreover, he was picked as an impact player on most occasions as a precaution to safeguard him against injury. He injured his hamstring during while batting in a clash against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and left the field midway. He retired hurt in the match and did not resume his batting later.
Notably, when BCCI announced the squad for Afghanistan series in May, Rohit’s availability was ‘subject to fitness’. He was asked to report to the BCCI’s Centre of Excellence (CoE) for a week for fitness tests.

According to a report by Asian News International (ANI), Rohit Sharma has cleared the fitness test at BCCI CoE and will join the team soon for the Afghanistan series.
On Monday, June 9, India’s assistant coach, Sitanshu Kotak was asked about Rohit and Hardik Pandya’s participation in Afghanistan series.
“I have honestly not got the news whether they have been cleared or not. But I’m sure they will be there. Whatever I heard, they are fine, but they, they have to go and do that fitness test or whatever the rule is,” Kotak said when asked about the status of the duo’s fitness test.
He also added that he is hopeful that they will participate in the tournament.
“But the ODI players will join, they’ll join here, and day after tomorrow evening, there might be a light practice. So there might be a light practice session,” Kotak added.
Pandya, who led MI in IPL 2026, missed a few games due to illness and back spasms. Both Rohit and Pandya struggled with their form in IPL 2026. Rohit last played for India in the ODI series against New Zealand in January. Pandya featured in the T20 World Cup 2026 in March.
