Rohit Sharma’s place in India’s 2027 World Cup plans remains uncertain.

The ICC Cricket World Cup 2027 is nearly a year away, and the Indian Cricket Team is still trying to figure out their best possible combinations for next year’s biggest event. The team has just lost the ODI series against England; however, there were a few positive signs for the team in the series that made the fans happy.

Former captain Rohit Sharma, who led India to the final of the Cricket World Cup in 2023, was speculated to play his final ODI match at Lord’s in the third ODI of the series. There were many rumours regarding the team management asking him to retire. The rumours arose after Rohit failed to perform in the second ODI in Cardiff.

However, in the third ODI, Rohit showed how valuable he still is to the team. The 39-year-old opener struck 138 off 110 balls in the third ODI at Lord’s, although India eventually fell 27 runs short while chasing 388 and lost the series to England 2–1.

However, once again, there are now rumours of the team management not considering Rohit for the World Cup next year and arranging a retirement series for him.

According to journalist Vaibhav Bhola, the team management and the BCCI are not considering Rohit Sharma for their plans for the 2027 Cricket World Cup, and he will be asked to retire from international cricket. There will be a retirement series organised to give him a farewell for all the contributions he has made to the Indian team over the years.

Rohit will turn 40 next year, and there are many options of young openers for the Indian management. Even though this news is not official and may turn out to be just another rumour, it is still uncertain whether Rohit will be fit and scoring runs a year later. The team management and the BCCI might be looking beyond him.

Rohit, who was India’s best batsman in the 2019 World Cup and captained them to the final in the 2023 World Cup, will probably retire without winning a single ODI World Cup trophy. The fans and supporters still want to see him for one last time at the 2027 World Cup, but that might not be the case with the team management.
