CSK to sack head coach Stephen Fleming? Here's MAJOR update on his future in IPL

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) have won five IPL titles under the coaching of Stephen Fleming.

Since becoming the champion in 2023 for the fifth time, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) have failed to qualify for the playoffs of the Indian Premier League (IPL) in the next three seasons. They were very close in 2024, finishing the season at fifth place.

But the in last two seasons, they have been among the bottom-ranked teams. CSK finished the 2025 season at the bottom with only four wins. It was followed by another disappointing season as they finished eighth in the IPL 2026.

CSK have consistently failed to deliver on the field, which ignited several rumours of a possible change in captaincy or coaching setup for the five-time champions. However, a report from Cricbuzz has shared a massive update on same.

Stephen Fleming’s future with CSK came under the scanner after the team’s horrible run in 2026. He even said at the end of the season that it would be management’s call. He had stated:

“Well, it’s always a choice for the management. There’s been a lot of talk about it. I know we are judged on results; that’s fair. So yeah, that’s the management’s call.”

CSK to stick with Stephen Fleming as Head Coach for IPL 2027

Stephen Fleming has been part of CSK since the inaugural edition in 2008. He moved to his new role of coaching in the 2009 edition. Under his coaching, CSK have won all five IPL titles (2010, 2011, 2018, 2021, and 2023).

However, the last two editions have been below the standard for the five-time champions. Understandably, there has been some noise among the CSK fans, and some campaigns, “Sack Fleming,” have trended on social media platforms.

However, a report in Cricbuzz has confirmed that the franchise is not willing to part ways with Fleming, and he is likely to stay with the team as head coach for the upcoming edition in 2027. He is likely to get a one-year extension on his annual contract with the franchise.

Fleming is currently associated with Texas Super Kings in the ongoing Major League Cricket (MLC) 2026. Though after the MLC 2026, the franchise is likely to review performances and will discuss key matters.

One of the most important points will be the participation of MS Dhoni in the IPL 2027. Dhoni didn’t take part in any game in 2026, citing fitness issues. There are some players’ trades, which might be part of the discussion if the franchise gets interested. As of now, CSK have denied any trade news.
