Varun Chakravarthy missed KKR’s previous match against RCB due to injury.

Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) had to wait for a long while before they won their first match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 season. They started the competition with several injury blows, with Harshit Rana’s absence affecting their playing combination the most.

However, once they found their mojo, they seemed to get on to a roll, winning four straight matches, including wins over the high flying Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH).

Unfortunately for KKR, they found their form slightly too late, as their recent loss to defending champions Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) dented their campaign. KKR can now reach a maximum of only 15 points, which might or might not to be enough for a place in the final four.

On the other hand, Gujarat Titans (GT) are in superb form, having now won their previous five matches. A win against KKR would not only make their qualification certain, but also help them strenghten their case to finish in the top-two.

Varun Chakravarthy has had a season of two halves in IPL 2026. He started poorly, as he failed to trouble batters with consistent lines and lengths, as a result of which his team too struggled for wins. He later picked up an injury due to which he missed a couple of matches.

However, since his return, Chakravarthy has seemed to somewhat regain his mojo. He has managed to once again hit the correct lines and lengths, and has varied his pace smartly. The spin choke created by him along with T20 icon Sunil Narine, has made life difficult against KKR’s bowling in the middle overs.

Varun Chakravarthy was ruled out of the RCB clash due to a suspected hairline fracture in his left foot. But captain Ajinkya Rahane said that the spinner had niggle. He was dearly missed by KKR, as their winning streak ended in the same match. This was the second time he suffered an injury this season, having already missed some matches in the first half. Ahead of KKR’s clash against GT in Eden Gardens, all eyes will be on Chakravarthy’s potential return.

On match eve, the mystery spinner was spotted bowling in the nets. The medical team and coaching staff are expected to keep a close eye on his progress, and a decision on his participation will be taken ahead of the toss.
