Vaibhav Sooryavanshi shone as East Zone crushed North East Zone by an innings & 210 runs to reach the Duleep Trophy 2026 semi-finals.
The Duleep Trophy 2026 has entered an important stage, with knockout matches bringing more close contests. East Zone made a strong statement in their quarter-final clash against North East Zone, securing a big win and booking their spot in the semi-finals.
East Zone dominated the contest from the beginning, posting 467 runs in their first innings before bowling North East Zone out for 111. The huge 365-run lead allowed Ishan Kishan’s side to give follow-on, and the team continued to put pressure on their opponents in the second innings.
Vaibhav Sooryavanshi entered the Duleep Trophy with considerable expectations after his impressive performances in the IPL and his early international career.
The youngster is representing East Zone in the Duleep Trophy 2026 and is also serving as the side’s vice-captain, with Ishan Kishan leading the team.

East Zone batted first and posted a massive total of 467 runs. Sudip Gharami scored 146, while Shahbaz Ahmed played a brilliant innings of 167.
North East Zone struggled against the East Zone bowling attack and were bowled out for only 111. With a lead of 356 runs, East Zone captain Ishan Kishan enforced the follow-on.
North East Zone again didn’t play well in the second innings. Their batters were unable to build a strong partnership, and East Zone continued to control the match.
When North East Zone were reduced to 63/5, Kishan decided to give the ball to Sooryavanshi. The move looked like a gamble because the youngster is best known for his explosive batting. However, the decision worked perfectly for the East Zone.
Vaibhav Sooryavanshi takes two wickets
Sooryavanshi is a left-arm off-spinner and took two wickets in the match. Vaibhav finished with figures of 2/11 in three overs. His spell helped the East Zone finish the match quickly and register a huge victory.

After the match, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi spoke about his bowling performance and revealed that Ishan Kishan felt he was taking a risk by giving him the ball.
“The opponents weren’t losing wickets, so I was asked to bowl two-three overs. Ishan bhaiya thought that he was taking a risk in giving me the ball. But he didn’t know that I’m a wicket-taker,” Sooryavanshi said with a smile.
However, his first outing with the bat did not go according to plan. Opening the innings for East Zone against North Zone, Sooryavanshi managed just 8 runs from 6 balls.
He struck two boundaries but could not stay at the crease for long. Moreover, Sooryavanshi still had the opportunity to showcase his skills in the semi-final.
