How did Vaibhav Sooryavanshi perform in Duleep Trophy 2026 final?

Vaibhav Sooryavanshi has been one of the biggest attractions of the Duleep Trophy 2026. The teenage batter entered the competition with all eyes set on his performance against the red ball. He had consistently impressed with his performance in white-ball cricket, and hence the Duleep Trophy was a major platform to showcase his strokeplay against the red ball. 

After a quiet start in Duleep Trophy 2026, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi produced a spectacular 92 against Central Zone in the semi-final. He followed it with another 40 in the second innings, helping East Zone reach the finals. He became the youngest half-centurion in the history of the Duleep Trophy. 

How much did Vaibhav Sooryavanshi score in the final against South Zone? 

Sooryavanshi’s participation in the Duleep Trophy final was under uncertainty as some stages, as the Duleep Trophy schedule clashed with India’s preparation phase for the upcoming Afghanistan series. But players like Ishan Kishan, Tilak Varma and Sooryavanshi himself are all playing the Duleep Trophy final. 

Sooryavanshi made his presence felt immediately in the final against South Zone. Opening the innings for East Zone on Day 1 alongside experienced batter Abhimanyu Easwaran, the youngster started his innings with his signature aggressive approach. 

The 15-year-old scored 44 off just 37 balls, striking five fours and a six. He attacked the South Zone bowlers from the outset and was particularly impressive against the Indian pacer Mohammed Siraj. During Siraj’s over, Sooryavanshi hit him for three boundaries that also included a six, portraying the youngster’s confidence against India’s highest wicket-taker in this WTC. 

He was dismissed after he and Easwaran had given East Zone a solid start with a century-opening partnership. Chama Milind eventually broke the partnership by dismissing the teenager. Though he missed out on another half-century in the Duleep Trophy, the innings was a clear portrayal of his ability to maintain an aggressive approach at the top of the order. 

Now after three matches and four innings in the Duleep Trophy, Sooryavanshi has amassed 184 runs at an average of 46.00 and a whopping strike rate. He also has a half-century under his belt and two handy forty-plus scores. Interestingly, the youngster also has two wickets with the ball, which came against North-East Zone during the quarter-finals.
