Vaibhav Sooryavanshi was expected to make his debut in the Ireland series.

The Indian Cricket Team is gearing up for the white-ball series against England, starting from July 1. The tour comprises of five T20Is followed by three ODI matches.

India are heading into this series after a crushing defeat against Ireland. The hosts won the T20I series 2-0, handing Men in Blue their first ever whitewash by them. However, the Shreyas Iyer-led side would want to start afresh against England, and would want to get back on track.

India are fielding the same squad as the series against Ireland. Two players, Prince Yadav and Suryansh Shedge, received their debut caps in the second T20I against Ireland. However, all eyes are still looking for the debut news of Vaibhav Sooryavanshi.

There were lot of reports which suggested that Sooryavanshi would make his debut against Ireland. However, team management backed experience and felt it was right to go with the T20 World Cup winning combination, and hence Vaibhav did not get his due.

The 15-year-old had taken the cricketing world by storm after his incredible IPL 2026 season, where he scored 776 runs at an exceptional strike rate of 237. He also scored runs in important clashes like the IPL Eliminator (97), and the Qualifier 2 (94).

His impeccable striking caught the selectors’ attention and earned him his maiden T20I call-up. However, he is yet to embark upon his international cricket journey.

Indian Skipper Shreyas Iyer made it clear in the pre-match media interaction, that the team is backing their World Cup winning combination, who has been scoring runs and winning matches for the team. He asserted that the management is not affected by the outside noise hyping Sooryavanshi’s debut, and that they are focusing on what is right for the team’s atmosphere.

Iyer’s statements in the presser clarified the stance of the team regarding Vaibhav. It looks like a bleak possibility that the Sooryavanshi will debut tonight in the 1st ENG vs IND T20I.

Reports from Revsportz suggest that the team practiced in nets in the same batting order as the previous series, which upholds the claims of no debut for the teenage. However, Sooryavanshi was seen having one-on-one throwdowns from the team’s throwdown specialist Raghu, where he focused on facing the short balls.

While his debut in the first match remains extremely unlikely, he might get a game later in the series. This is an all important series from India and Shreyas Iyer’s point of view, as they start a new chapter under a freshly appointed captain.
