Varun Chakaravarthy has been replaced by Ravi Bishnoi for the IND vs AFG second T20I.
India return to action against Afghanistan in the second T20I fixture at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi, with the hosts looking to seal the three-match series. India started their series on a commanding note, as they registered a convincing seven-wicket victory, thus establishing a 1-0 lead.
While Indian players are making an impact in this series following their recent struggles in the shortest format of the game, the second match is expected to provide another opportunity for several Indian players. However, India are forced to make an obvious change to their playing XI.
Varun Chakaravarthy‘s absence is particularly unfortunate because he had only just returned to international cricket after recovering from a hamstring injury suffered during India’s England tour. The second T20I match is currently being played at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi.

Varun Chakaravarthy is not playing the second IND vs AFG T20I because he has suffered a fresh side strain. The injury occurred following India’s participation in the series opener, where he made a much-anticipated comeback.
The expert spinner bowled his quota of four overs and returned with the figures of 1/16 against Afghanistan at the Arun Jaitley Stadium. As reported by BCCI sources quoted by India Today, the injury is a fresh one, and the MRIs have confirmed the side strain.
“It is a fresh injury. MRI has revealed that it is a side strain. He is out of the series and looks unlikely for Asian Games,” said the BCCI source.
He has subsequently been ruled out from the remainder of the Afghanistan series and is also doubtful for India’s upcoming campaign in the Asian Games. The timing of the setback makes it particularly disappointing as the spinner has spent time recovering from a hamstring injury sustained during the England tour.
For India, the immediate challenge was not to find a replacement, as the Indian management had already picked a second wrist spinner in the squad. Ravi Bishnoi has been slated into India’s playing XI for the second T20I against Afghanistan.
