Varun Chakaravarthy picked one wicket in his spell against Afghanistan in the first T20I.
The three-match T20I series between India and Afghanistan started off on the right note for the Indians, as they won the first match comfortably by seven wickets in New Delhi. While the match brought India a 1-0 advantage, there were a few injured players who made a comeback into the squad as well.

Injury woes continue for the Indian team as Varun Chakaravarthy has once again sustained an injury just before the 2nd T20I against Afghanistan. It will be a big letdown for the seasoned cricketer and the Indian team, as Varun is their lead spin-bowling option.

According to a report by Abhishek Tripathi, Varun Chakaravarthy is ruled out of the T20I series against Afghanistan after suffering an injury. It is quite unfortunate for the cricketer, as he had recovered from an injury just before the series began.
In the first T20I against Afghanistan, the Indian leg-spinner bowled his quota of four overs. This means that the injury issue must have occurred after this match.
His non-availability will come as a big setback for India as they have been busy scheduling their tour alongside their participation in the Asian Games. He has developed himself into a premier spin bowler for India in the shortest format of the game.
India do have some substitutes to cover up this situation. Ravi Bishnoi is one such player in their squad who can take on the challenge if Chakaravarthy is not available. The other option available is Washington Sundar, who could not make it to the playing XI for the previous match.
