Varun Chakravarthy revealed that Arshdeep Singh gave the idea to celebrate without the trophy on the podium.
Indian spinner Varun Chakravarthy has revealed that Arshdeep Singh gave the idea to celebrate without a trophy on the podium after the team’s victory in Asia Cup 2025 final. The Suryakumar Yadav-led Indian team crushed Pakistan Cricket Team by five wickets in the summit clash on September 28 at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium in Dubai.
However, a controversy took place after the victory as Indian players refused to receive the trophy from Asian Cricket Council (ACC) President and Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Mohsin Naqvi. As a result, the ACC chairman did not hand over the trophy and medals to the Indian team and took them away with him. Later, the Indian team celebrated their victory on the podium without the trophy.
The Indian skipper Suryakumar Yadav mimicked lifting an imaginary trophy as other players joined him in the celebrations. Hence, they turned an awkward situation into a moment of happiness and pride. Later, some Indian players shared photos of emojis of a trophy in place of actual photos with the silverware on their social media accounts.

Speaking at an awards show, spinner Chakravarthy revealed that pacer Arshdeep was the mastermind behind the team’s trophy-less celebration at the podium.
“It was actually Arshdeep’s idea. We were waiting for the trophy, but we all know how that turned out. I was standing there, hoping the cup would show up – we were all waiting. But the only cup next to me was a coffee cup,” he said.
Meanwhile, Chakravarthy clinched seven wickets in six games during the tournament at an economy of 6.50. Arshdeep played only two games with his best coming in the game against Sri Lanka, where he helped the team to win in the super over.
The Men in Blue were unbeaten during the tournament, winning seven games in a row. They crushed Pakistan on three occasions during the campaign. Abhishek Sharma, who finished as the highest run-scorer in Asia Cup 2025, was adjudged Player of the Tournament.
