Varun Chakravarthy was the second-highest wicket-taker in the IPL 2024.
Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) spinner Varun Chakravarthy has launched a scathing attack on the BCCI selectors after not getting included in India’s squad to tour Zimbabwe for a five-T20I series next month, despite brilliant performances recently in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024.
On Monday, the BCCI announced their squad to tour Zimbabwe for five T20Is, which will be starting on July 6 at the Harare Sports Club.
Only two players – Sanju Samson and Yashasvi Jaiswal – have been selected for this series from India’s 15-man squad currently in the West Indies for the ICC T20 World Cup 2024.
Among the spinners, the BCCI has rested Ravindra Jadeja, Axar Patel, Kuldeep Yadav and Yuzcendra Chahal. For the Zimbabwe tour, the selectors have picked Washington Sundar and Ravi Bishnoi as front-line spinners with Riyan Parag and Abhishek Sharma as spin-bowling all-rounders.
Varun Chakravarthy upset over exclusion from the Zimbabwe tour
Going by Chakravarthy’s latest Instagram stories, perhaps he had been expecting his name for the upcoming series, considering his brilliant show in the IPL 2024, where he helped his franchise lift the trophy.
During the IPL 2024 season, Chakravarthy ended as the second-highest wicket-taker with 21 wickets at an average of 19 and an economy rate of 8, which is good keeping in mind the kind of high-scoring tournament it was.
Hours after the announcement of India’s squad, Chakravarthy posted a couple of Instagram stories. In one of them, he made his feelings clear.
Chakravarthy wrote, “I wish I had a PR agency”.
In his second Instagram story, Chakravarthy wrote, “God, grant me the serenity to accept the thing I cannot change; courage to change the things I can; and wisdom to know the difference.”
