Good News for India; Varun Chakravarthy joins T20I squad ahead of ENG vs IND series

Following a devastating T20I series loss against Ireland, India are set for a major challenge in the white-ball series against England. Both teams are scheduled to clash in an ODI and T20I series.
The T20I series will be played first, with the opening match scheduled for July 1 at the Riverside Ground in Chester-le-Street. Both sides will lock horns in five T20I games, followed by a three-match ODI series.
Shreyas Iyer, who was recently appointed as India’s new T20I captain, will have to prove his leadership against England. Under his captaincy, India lost both the T20I games against Ireland, with the latter scripting history with their first-ever series victory against the Men in Blue in the shortest format.

Spinner Varun Chakravarthy has joined the Indian squad ahead of the upcoming T20I series against England, according to a report by Revzsportz. He was ruled out of the Ireland series due to a foot injury.
The right-arm spinner last played for India in the ICC T20 World Cup 2026 in March. He led the team’s spin attack and played a crucial role in their title-winning campaign. Later, he represented Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026.
While BCCI is yet to provide an official update on Varun’s addition to the T20I squad against England, photos and videos of him joining the squad in Durham have gone viral on social media platforms. As a result, multiple reports suggest that Chakravarthy is set to be part of the T20I series against England.
Varun has been India’s frontline spinner in the T20I format over the last two years. Since the start of 2026, the leg-spinner has clinched 18 wickets in 12 games at an average of 21.94 and an economy of 9.18.
In the T20 World Cup 2026, he hunted total of 14 wickets, including three-wicket hauls against Netherlands and Namibia.
Meanwhile, Ravi Bishnoi is another spinner part of India’s squad for the T20I series against England. Axar Patel and Washington Sundar are two spin all-rounders. After India’s dismal show against Ireland, Chakravarthy’s addition will strengthen India’s bowling unit against England.
