Veda Krishnamurthy played 48 ODIs and 76 T20Is for Indian women’s cricket team.

Indian women‘s cricketer Veda Krishnamurthy on Friday, July 25, announced her retirement from all forms of cricket. The middle-order batter was part of the team that finished as runners-up in the ICC Women’s ODI World Cup 2017 and the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2020.

Krishnamurthy played her last international match for India women during ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2020. During her career, she played 48 ODIs and 76 T20Is for India Women.

The right-handed batter scored 829 runs in 41 innings in ODIs at an average of 25.90. She also slammed eight half-centuries. In T20Is, she mustered 875 runs in 63 innings, including two fifties.

Veda Krishnamurthy announced her retirement on social media

The 32-year-old announced her retirement on social media. She shared a post on social media to reveal the news.

“A small-town girl with big dreams. That’s how it all started in Kadur. I picked up a bat not knowing where it would take me. But I knew I loved the game. I never imagined it would take me this far from narrow streets to the biggest stadiums, from quiet hopes to proudly wearing the Indian jersey,” she wrote.

“Cricket gave me so much more than just a career. It gave me a sense of who I am. It taught me how to fight, how to fall and how to keep showing up. Today, with a full heart, I’m calling time on this chapter,” she added.

After being overlooked for the national team, Veda switched her role as a commentator and broadcaster. She made her debut in Women’s Premier League (WPL) in the 2024 edition, playing for Gujarat Giants (GG). However, she was not retained for the 2025 season. She also played a season of the Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL) for the Hobart Hurricanes in 2017-18.
