India's tour of West Indies 2023
"Captain looked clueless,": Venkatesh Prasad launches scathing attack on Indian team following T20I series loss to WI
India lost the five-match T20I series 2-3 to West Indies.
Former Indian bowler, Venkatesh Prasad, has been vocal in recent times taking it to social media and criticizing performance of individual Indian cricketers as well as the Indian cricket team.
After India’s loss in the fifth 5th T20I against West Indies at Lauderhill, Florida, Venkatesh Prasad yet again launched an attack on the team.
India were down by 0-2 in the series by the end of first two matches and then made a fighting comeback to level the series 2-2 going into the final match of the series at Lauderhill, Florida.
After calling it right at the toss, captain Hardik Pandya decided to bat first and put his men under testing grounds to defend the total.
After a poor start from the heroes of Saturday, Shubman Gill and Yashasvi Jaiswal, India were 17/2 after 2.5 overs. At the crease were Mumbai Indians’ middle-order duo of Suryakumar Yadav and Tilak Varma who showed resilience to help India get out of the slump, added 40 runs for the fourth wicket before Tilak Varma holed out to bowler Roston Chase.
The No. 1 ranked T20I batter Suryakumar Yadav managed to score 61 before getting dismissed by Jason Holder which helped India post a total of 165/9.
West Indies on the back of Brandon King’s unbeaten 85 and Nicholas Pooran’s 47, chased down 166 comfortably by 8 wickets and 2 overs to spare and sealed the series 3-2.
Following India’s defeat in the fifth match of the series, former Indian pacer Venkatesh Prasad, in a series of tweets lambasted the Indian captain, team management for their dismal performances across white-ball formats in recent times.
India have been a very very ordinary limited overs side for sometime now: Venkatesh Prasad
Right after India’s defeat, Venkatesh Prasad took it to twitter and lambasted India’s white-ball setup and mentioned the team has been a very very ordinary side in limited overs cricket. He also lashed out at how India lost a T20I series against a team, who failed to qualify for the main round of T20 World Cup last year and also lost an ODI series to Bangladesh last year.
“India has been a very very ordinary limited overs side for sometime now. They have been humbled by a West Indies side that failed to qualify for the T20 WC few months back. We had also lost to Ban in the ODI series. Hope they introspect instead of making silly statements #IndvWI.” tweeted Venkatesh.
In a continuation to his first tweet, he then replied to a fan who misquoted that West Indies failed to qualify for the ODI World Cup this year and not the T20 World Cup last year, Venkatesh further explained the fan about the facts and then also shared that it pains to see India perform poorly and brush it under the carpet. And then he also accused Indian team of missing the fire.
“Not just 50 overs, West Indies had failed to qualify for the T20 World cup last Oct- Nov as well. It pains to see India perform poorly and brush it under the carpet, under the garb of process. That hunger, fire is missing and we live in an illusion.” tweeted Venkatesh.
“No consistency in selection,” accuses Venkatesh Prasad
When a fan asked about Venkatesh’s views on the Indian T20 captain and management, Venkatesh, without any hesitation blamed the captain and management for the debacle against West Indies in the T20I series. He also mentioned about how a process was being followed under former Indian captain MS Dhoni, which is missing now. He then also accused Indian team management of not having consistency in selection.
“They are responsible for the debacle and need to be accountable. Process and such words are misused now. MS meant it, guys now just use the word. There is no consistency in selection, random stuff happening too much.” tweeted Venkatesh.
Venkatesh Prasad in last of his tweets, demanded improvement of skillset, hunger, intensity from Indian players. He also mentioned the captain Hardik Pandya often looked ‘Clueless’ in the series. He also demanded to have more two-dimensional players in the setup, like bowlers who can bat and batsmen who can roll their sleeves up when required.
“India needs to improve their skillset. Their is a hunger & intensity deficiency & often the captain looked clueless. Bowler’s can’t bat, batsmen can’t bowl. It’s important to not look for yes men and be blinded because someone is your favourite player but look at the larger good.” signed off Venkatesh Prasad.
Indian Cricket Team will be seen next in action in a three-match T20I series against Ireland from 18th August where returning Jasprit Bumrah will lead the Indian side while other senior players including the head coach Rahul Dravid will be rested.
