Vinod Kambli played 17 tests and 104 ODIs for India.

Former India batsman Vinod Kambli was rushed to Thane’s Akruti Hospital on Saturday night as his health reportedly “deteriorated.”

Kambli, who played for India between 1991 and 2000 and is a childhood friend of the legendary Sachin Tendulkar, has suffered several health issues over the past two decades as he reportedly indulged in alcohol. He’s been hospitalised multiple times over the past decade.

For now, while Kambli is said to be “stable,” his condition is still “critical”.

“The 52-year-old’s condition is currently stable, though still critical. Further details about his ailment are awaited,” a report in IANS stated.

Kambli had made a public appearance about three weeks ago. He had attended the unveiling of his ex-coach Ramakant Achrekar’s statue in Mumbai’s Shivaji Park along with Sachin Tendulkar. It was visible that Kambli’s health is in a poor state as he failed to speak properly.

Tendulkar paid for both my surgeries: Vinod Kambli

Recently, Kambli opened up on his physical health issues on Vicky Lalwani’s YouTube channel.

“I was suffering from a urine problem. It was just flowing. My son, Jesus Cristiano, picked me up and brought me back to my feet. My daughter, who is 10 years old, and my wife came to help me. This happened one month ago. My head started spinning; I collapsed and fell down. The doctor told me to get admitted,” said Kambli.

Kambli revealed he underwent two heart surgeries in 2013 and had received financial support from Tendulkar.

“Sachin did everything for me. He helped me and did a lot. I underwent two operations at Lilawati. He took care of it. He paid for both my surgeries – helped financially – in 2013,” the former left-handed batsman said.
