Virat Kohli missed the ODI series against Afghanistan.
India are set to play three ODI matches against England in July. The matches are scheduled for July 14, 16, and 19, in Birmingham, Cardiff and London, respectively.
Shubman Gill and Co. played the ODI series against Afghanistan before this assignment, which they won 3-0. The ODI regulars such as Virat Kohli, Hardik Pandya, and Jasprit Bumrah had missed that series due to injuries and workload management.
Kohli sustained a hamstring injury in the IPL 2026 final. He was named in the 15-member squad for the Afghanistan series, but had to be ruled out later. Yashasvi Jaiswal had replaced him in the squad.
As the Men in Blue gear up for the England ODIs, Virat Kohli and Jasprit Bumrah are set to return to the setup. Bumrah will return to the 50-over format after playing his last ODI match in November 2023. Meanwhile, many will be eager to see Kohli continue his magnificent form in this series.
Virat Kohli returns from injury layoff, kickstarts his training

Kohli reported at the BCCI Centre of Excellence (CoE) on June 22 for his fitness evaluation and clearance. Some reports have stated that his right hamstring injury has improved significantly and he could be available for the ODI matches against England.
The latest update is that the star batter was spotted training with former India coach Sanjay Bangar at a private facility in Alibaug. Virat appears keen and committed to deliver a good performance for India in the 50-over format.
Kohli last featured in the IPL 2026, where he guided Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) to their second consecutive title. He scored 675 runs in 16 matches, with an incredible strike rate of 165. He averaged above 56.
His match-winning innings of an unbeaten 75 off 42 balls against Gujarat Titans in the IPL 2026 final made the run chase easy for RCB. The team won the match comfortably by 5 wickets.
Furthermore, Virat’s golden run in ODIs since the South Africa series has been remarkable. He has five 50+ scores in his past six ODI innings, including three centuries. In his last outing against New Zealand, he amassed 124 runs in the series decider.
With a comprehensive ODI schedule ahead, featuring matches against England, New Zealand, and the West Indies, Kohli’s form and fitness remain pivotal for the team.
