Virat Kohli breaks Sachin Tendulkar's record after completing 26000 runs in international cricket

Virat Kohli completed 26000 international cricket runs on 19th October, 2023.

Team India had a dominating win over Bangladesh at MCA Stadium in Pune. They thumped Bangladesh by seven wickets after a magnificent century knock from Virat Kohli. Star Indian batter Virat Kohli smashed his 48th ODI and 78th international century and took India home with a magnificent six over long off. His century also brought mixed emotions among cricket fans, as Virat delayed team India’s victory by a few overs to complete his personal milestone.

Virat Kohli had a few records at his disposal during the century knock as he came closer to Sachin Tendulkar’s most ODI centuries record. He needs one more to equal Sachin and two to overtake the batting maestro. He had overtaken Sachin Tendulkar in one of the batting records with his marvelous century knock in Pune. Virat Kohli left Sachin behind and became the quickest batter to complete 26,000 international runs.

Virat Kohli overtakes Sachin Tendulkar

Virat Kohli took only 567 innings to complete his 26,000 international runs, which is 34 innings quicker than Sachin Tendulkar. Sachin took 601 innings to complete his 26,000 international runs. Virat Kohli has 8676 runs in 187 test innings, 13,342 runs in 273 ODI innings, and 4008 runs in 107 T20I innings. Virat has a total of 26,026 international runs in 567 innings, with 78 international centuries. Virat Kohli is not far behind Sachin from the centuries record as well.

Virat Kohli became the fourth batter in international cricket to score more than 26,000 international runs. Sachin Tendulkar is leading the chart of batsmen with most runs in international cricket with 34,357 runs to his name. Former Sri Lankan captain Kumar Sangakkara also had a glorious record across formats, and he is the second-leading run scorer with 28,016 runs. Former Australian skipper Ricky Ponting is third on the list with 27,483 international runs for Australia. Virat Kohli comes after Ricky Ponting on this list.

The team chased down 257 runs comfortably against Bangladesh in Pune. Virat Kohli scored his century in 97 balls and smashed six fours and four sixes. Virat Kohli is having a great World Cup campaign so far and has scored three fifty-plus scores in four innings. Virat missed out on a century against Australia in Chennai and was dismissed on 85 runs. Virat Kohli played another magnificent knock against Afghanistan and scored a half-century.
