Virat Kohli announced his retirement from test cricket in May 2025.

Indian cricketer Virat Kohli has finally broken his silence on his decision to retire from test cricket. The former Indian skipper announced his retirement from tests in May, breaking the hearts of many cricket fans. He ended his career as the fourth-highest run-scorer for India in tests.

Kohli played 123 tests and scored 9230 in 210 innings at an average of 46.85. He also hammered 30 centuries and 31 fifties, including seven double centuries. His retirement came just a few days after Rohit Sharma retired from tests.

Kohli recently attended a charity event hosted by former India cricketer Yuvraj Singh’s foundation, YouWeCan. Many cricket legends like Chris Gayle, Ravi Shastri, Gautam Gambhir, Sachin Tendulkar, Kevin Pietersen, Brian Lara, and Ashish Nehra were present on the occasion. During a chat with host Gaurav Kapoor, Kohli reacted to his test retirement.

“I just coloured my beard two days ago. You know it’s time when you are colouring your beard every four days,” Kohli said.

During the event, Kohli also thanked former India head coach Ravi Shastri for backing him during the early days of his career.

“Honestly, if I wasn’t working with him… what happened in Test cricket wouldn’t have been possible. The clarity which we had together is very hard to find. It’s everything for cricketers to grow in their careers,” he said.

“Even he hadn’t backed me the way he did… those press conferences where he took the bullets from the front line. Things would have been different and I always have respect and regard for him, for being a massive part of my cricketing journey,” he further added.

Meanwhile, Kohli was last seen in Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025, where his team Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) won the title. Kohli gave a brilliant performance in the tournament and ended as the leading run-scorer for his team. Recently, he attended the Wimbledon 2025 in London with his wife Anushka Sharma.
