RR vs RCB: Virat Kohli becomes first batsman to score 7500+ runs in the IPL
Virat Kohli is the highest run-scorer of IPL.
Veteran batter Virat Kohli has etched his name in the records books as he became the first ever batter in Indian Premier League (IPL) history to smash 7500 or more runs in the tournament.
The legendary cricketer was just 34 runs short of the historic milestone and entered the record books during the IPL 2024 match between Rajasthan Royals (RR) and Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur on April 6.
Interestingly, all of Kohli’s IPL runs have come for RCB, the team he has been part of since 2008. The right-handed batter made a slow IPL start as he scored 165 runs on his debut season in 2008.
In the 2013 IPL edition, Kohli was named the Bengaluru skipper. He led the team from the front as he smashed 634 runs, followed by 359 and 505 runs in the 2014 and 2015 editions, respectively. The Bengaluru opener amassed 308, 530, 464, 466, 405, 341 and 639 runs in the IPL 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020, 2021, 2022, and 2023 IPL seasons, respectively.
His purple patch came in the IPL 2016 as he became the first ever batter in the league’s history to breach the 900-run mark in a season. The veteran batter shattered many records during the 2016 season as he smashed 973 runs.
