Virat Kohli is apparently back to his best. His masterclass against South Africa in the first ODI at Ranchi was a treat for the fans who were waiting to watch Kohli dominate the opposition. Virat scored a match-winning 135 runs in the first ODI to help India earn a 1-0 lead in the three-match series.

Virat’s 52nd century has promoted him in the ICC ODI rankings. The former India captain is now 4th in the rankings. He has overtaken Shubman Gill, who is missing the ODI series against South Africa due to a neck injury that he suffered in the Kolkata test against South Africa.

Virat Kohli has 751 rating points after his heroics against the Proteas in Ranchi. Shubman Gill, with 738 points, stands in fifth position. Virat has been in fine form after his unbeaten half-century against Australia in Sydney, which came after two consecutive failures.

Kohli’s 135 runs against South Africa were a statement of intent to the selectors that he is ready and committed to the 2027 ICC Cricket World Cup. If he continues his form in the remaining ODIs against South Africa and the upcoming series against New Zealand, he can reclaim the No.1 spot in the rankings.

Rohit Sharma stays on top in ICC Rankings

Rohit Sharma has maintained his grip on the top spot in the ICC ODI rankings. He was one of the best performers for India in the first ODI against South Africa. With 783 points, he has a 17-point lead over Daryl Mitchell, who is in second place.

Shreyas Iyer is another Indian in the top 10 rankings. He is ninth in the list with 693 rating points. Iyer has been out of action after he lacerated his spleen in Australia while committing himself on the field. He is still recovering from his injury.
