Virat Kohli, Ravindra Jadeja, and Rohit Sharma retired from T20Is after winning the ICC T20 World Cup 2024.

In a bizarre twist of events, Virat Kohli has retired from T20Is at a higher position in men’s ranking for all-rounders than his teammate Ravindra Jadeja. This comes after the latest update of the International Cricket Council (ICC) rankings on Wednesday.

Apart from Virat Kohli, India captain Rohit Sharma and Ravindra Jadeja announced their T20I retirements after India won the T20 World Cup 2024. India defeated South Africa in the final of the tournament in Barbados on June 29.

Virat Kohli played a major role in India’s win as he scored a crucial knock of 76 runs in 59 balls, anchoring the India innings after they lost three quick wickets. His knock, coupled with contributions by Axar Patel and Shivam Dube helped India post 176/6 in 20 overs.

In response, Heinrich Klaasen and Quinton de Kock with David Miller threatened to overhaul the target with ease. But Arshdeep Singh and Jasprit Bumrah with two wickets each and Hardik Pandya with 3/20 restricted South Africa to 168/8 and won the game by seven runs.

Virat Kohli finishes at 79th spot in comparison to Ravindra Jadeja’s 86 in the ICC T20I all-rounder rankings

In an incredible achievement, Virat Kohli finished his T20I career at a higher spot in ICC rankings for men’s all-rounders than his teammate Ravindra Jadeja, despite playing the majority of his 125 matches as a specialist hitter.

In the most recent update (July 2), Kohli was placed 40th for batting and 79th for all-round ability. Kohli did not bowl a single delivery in the T20 World Cup 2024, but scored 151 runs. Kohli has taken 4 wickets in 13 T20I innings at an average of 51 and an economy rate of 8.05.

Jadeja was ranked 86th in the rankings for all-rounders, with a rating disadvantage of four points. This was despite his inclusion in India’s 2024 men’s T20 World Cup squad as a great all-rounder.

It was most likely influenced by the significant number of T20Is Jadeja missed, which is reflected in oscillations throughout the table. However, despite being one of the best test all-rounders in the world, Jadeja is yet to crack the T20I code.

He picked up 54 wickets in 71 matches but hardly found consistency. His batting numbers – 515 runs in 41 innings at 21.46 and a strike rate of 127.16 – were also underwhelming.
