"My name's promoting T20.." Virat Kohli's indirect dig at reports citing him to be left out of T20WC
Virat Kohli won Player of the Match award against PBKS for his 77.
After absence from action since the Afghanistan T20I series and missing the subsequent test series against England due to the birth of his second child, Virat Kohli marked a triumphant return to the Indian Premier League (IPL). In his second match of the season, he amassed 77 runs, significantly impacting Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s 4-wicket victory over Punjab Kings.
Following their loss to Chennai Super Kings in the first match, RCB faced Punjab Kings in their second match of the season, chasing a target of 177 runs. Contributions from Kohli, alongside a late surge from Dinesh Karthik and Mahipal Lomror, clinched the victory for RCB.
Virat Kohli’s indirect dig at rumours citing his ouster from India T20 WC squad ?
Despite holding the record for most runs in T20I cricket history and being the leading run-scorer in the T20 World Cup, doubts have arisen regarding Virat Kohli’s place in the squad for the upcoming mega event. Speculations have been fueled by reports and rumors suggesting that Kohli might be excluded from the squad.
Earlier this month, a report in The Telegraph claimed that the BCCI left decision to include Kohli in squad for T20 World Cup to selection committee chairman Ajit Agarkar. The report also added that not many people are willing to take part in Kohli’s future in the shortest format because it’s a very delicate matter.
However, following Virat Kohli’s match-winning performance against PBKS on Monday, March 25 in the IPL 2024, he took an indirect dig at the rumours. This is the first time Kohli came out on the TV screen for an interview after those rumours surfaced earlier this month.
In the post-match presentation after leading RCB to victory against PBKS at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on March 25, Kohli said, “I know my name is now attached to just promoting the game in different parts of the world when it comes to T20 cricket. I’ve still got it I guess.”
Despite facing uncertainties surrounding his T20 World Cup selection, Kohli’s performance on the field demonstrated his unwavering commitment and determination to silence doubters. His remarks signify a player confident in his abilities and eager to prove his worth on the international stage, irrespective of any doubts surrounding his selection.
