"Tumhara masala khatam ho gaya..": Virat Kohli on hugging Naveen Ul Haq and Gautam Gambhir

Virat Kohli spoke about Gambhir and Naveen during an event in Mumbai.

Virat Kohli, in an event, took a dig at people who want to keep controversies alive, when the crowd went wild as he addressed Gautam Gambhir as “Gauti bhai.” He also talked about hugging Naveen Ul Haq during the World Cup 2023 and then Gambhir during the recent IPL 2024.

To refresh people’s memories, during the IPL 2023 LSG vs RCB match at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow, the hosts struggled to chase down RCB’s low score of 130. Kohli and Naveen got into a fight while the latter was batting in the second innings.

It was also said that at one point during the game, Kohli suggested to his teammates that they bowl some bouncers to the LSG tail-enders, which did not sit well with Naveen. Neither of the two cricketers pulled out as the situation worsened.  

The two had a furious argument, and neither of them backed down, adding gasoline to the fire with their actions. Eventually, Bangalore won by 18 runs. When the players from both sides shook hands, Kohli and Naveen got into another dispute, prompting then-LSG mentor Gautam Gambhir to intervene.

Then Kohli and Gambhir almost came to blows, prompting players and staff from both franchises to intervene and separate the two cricketers.

Virat Kohli attended an Asian Paints event in Mumbai and during the event, Kohli discussed his connection with Gambhir and shared a few amusing anecdotes with the crowd. The crowd erupted when Kohli addressed Gambhir as ‘Bhai’ during the event. The audience could not contain their emotions and responded with a raucous ovation.

Listening to the same, Kohli stated that many are unhappy with his actions because he has reconciled with both Naveen and Gambhir. This meant the fans had nothing left to fight over.

“Ye naa log bahut disappointed ho gaye hai mere behavior se. Naveen (Ul Haq) ke saath maine jhappi daal di, uss din Gauti (Gautam Gambhir) bhai ne aake mere ko jhappi daal di, toh matlab tumhara masala khatam ho gaya toh ab. Abey bacche thodi naa hai yaar.

(People are disappointed with my behavior. I hugged Naveen [ul-Haq] and Gauti bhai also hugged me that day. So they have lost their masala),” he said.
