Virat Kohli retired from test cricket days before the Indian squad for England tour was announced.

Former India test batter Virat Kohli was over the moon as India defeated England at The Oval in the fifth and final test by six runs. Thanks to this, India leveled the five-match series 2-2, with wins in Edgbaston and Oval, while they lost at Headingley and Lord’s, with a draw in Manchester.

12 days prior to India’s squad announcement for the England test tour, Kohli had declared his retirement from test cricket. His absence, coupled with the departure of Rohit Sharma and Ravichandran Ashwin, only made things more difficult for young Shubman Gill and his Indian squad.

His supporters may still mourn Kohli some 45 days later, but the Indian cricket team’s supporters don’t, as Gill’s youthful squad has successfully tied the first-ever Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy without him.

When India last visited England for a test series in 2021, they had built a 2-1 lead under Kohli. However, by the time Virat relinquished his test leadership the following year, England had won in Birmingham to tie the series 2-2 since the last game had to be moved from Manchester to Edgbaston.

Extremely happy: Virat Kohli gives special mention to Mohammed Siraj

Even Virat Kohli couldn’t help but praise India’s thrilling victory over England at The Oval, despite the fact that his social media appearances have drastically decreased.

With Harry Brook and Joe Root each scoring hundreds and putting together 195 runs, England had total control of the 374-run chase. However, their dismissals set off an unforgettable bowling comeback by India, led by Mohammed Siraj, who took five wickets, his second of the series.

Mohammed Siraj picked 5/104 in second innings of The Oval test and finished with 23 wickets in the series, bowling almost 185 overs across five tests, a show of great strength and stamina, especially performing in tests in which Jasprit Bumrah was rested.

This earned him a special mention from Virat Kohli, who mentored him when he made his India debut in 2017 under him and played for multiple years under him in Royal Challengers Bengaluru in the Indian Premier League.

Great win by Team India. Resilience and determination from Siraj and Prasidh have given us this phenomenal victory. Special mention to Siraj, who will put everything on the line for the team. Extremely happy for him,” Kohli posted on X.

Mohammed Siraj was quick to reply to Kohli and stated: “Thank you bhaiya for “Believe”ing in me.
