Indian Cricket Team batting legend Virat Kohli is among the best batters to ever play Test cricket. The right-handed batsman was at the forefront of everything – batting, fielding and captaincy – during his playing days, and was even termed as face of the format
Moreover, he is also credited for developing India into one of the most dominant side in Test cricket as a skipper. Under his captaincy, India won the Test series in Australia for the first time. Moreover, he also led the team to the first World Test Championship (WTC) final in 2021, in which they lost to New Zealand and ended as runners-up.
Playing 123 test matches, Kohli scored 9230 runs in 210 innings at an average of 46.85, including 30 centuries and 31 fifties. Out of these, there’re seven double hundreds- the most than any other Indian batsman.
In January 2022, Kohli stepped down as the test captain after a Test series loss to South Africa but continued to be a prominent batter for the side. A few years later, he eventually announced his shock retirement from Test cricket in May 2025.
His decision came almost a week after Rohit Sharma’s Test retirement and became the talk of the town. Many fans were surprised by his decision and numerous experts and former cricketers reiterated that Kohli could have played for a few more years in longest format of the game. Kohli’s is respected and appreciated for his contribution to the Indian Test Team and many fans eagerly want him to make a comeback to the longest format.
Virat Kohli drops big statement on to his Test comeback

On Sunday, Virat Kohli attended a promotional event of his venture one8 inDelhi. During the show, he was asked by the host whether he would like to return to Test cricket. The host mentioned that a red shoe associated with his brand has been priced at INR 9230, which is his tally in Tests. He also asked whether he would like to make a comeback and score more runs.
Showing the shoe to Kohli, the host said, “The red shoe has been priced at ₹9,230, which matches your Test runs. Would you like to return to Test cricket and score more runs so the shoe can be sold for a higher price?”
To this, Kohli gave a blunt reply that he has no plans to ever return to the test cricket.
“Na na, I would rather undersell… I’m done with it (Test cricket),”
Meanwhile, Kohli is active in the 50-over format and has been in a wonderful form since the start of 2026. He missed the previous ODI series against Afghanistan due to a hamstring injury but has been named in the forthcoming ODI tour against England next month.
Kohli’s availability is subject to clearance as he needs to prove his fitness to the BCCI. He is currently in Delhi and will check-in at BCCI’s Centre of Excellence (CoE) on Monday.
