When will Virat Kohli & Rohit Sharma next play for India?

Virat and Rohit last played for India in the three-match ODI series against South Africa.
Veteran batsmen Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma had recently made their domestic cricket return in the ongoing white-ball 50-overs competition, the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2025-26. Virat turned out in two games for Delhi in Bengaluru, while Rohit Sharma played for Mumbai in Jaipur.
Rohit performed well in the first game for Mumbai, scoring a brilliant 155 against Sikkim and leading his team to a significant victory. However, his second outing for Mumbai, against Uttarakhand, proved to be a short affair, as he was out in the first over of the innings for a golden duck.
On the other hand, Virat played a huge role in Delhi’s two wins in the VHT tournament thus far. He scored 131 for Delhi against Andhra Pradesh in the match played at the CoE 1, Bengaluru. He also played Delhi’s second game at the same venue, against Gujarat, and scored a sublime 77 runs.
Meanwhile, Rohit might not play again in the Vijay Hazare Trophy this season, because he has already fulfilled the BCCI’s obligation to participate in just two domestic cricket matches. On the other hand, Virat might play one more match against Railways on January 6.
Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma will next play against New Zealand

Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli now play in only one format of international cricket for India. They had made their India ODI return after the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, when the Men in Blue had traveled to Australia.
Rohit, relieved of the India captaincy, hammered 8, 73, and 121* runs in the three ODIs in Australia and won the Player of the Series award. On the other hand, Virat had suffered two ducks in the first two games but recovered well with 74* in the third ODI.
Then, in the three-match ODI series between India and South Africa, Rohit Sharma made 57, 14, and 75 in the three games. However, Virat scored 135, 102, and 65* in the three games and was the Player of the Series.
The two stalwarts will have a few days of rest, as they will next feature for India when New Zealand visits for three ODIs and five T20Is.
The three-ODI series will begin on January 11, with the first ODI to be played in Vadodara. The second ODI will be played on January 14 in Rajkot, while the third and final ODI will be played in Indore.
This will be the last ODI series in which Virat and Rohit will feature for India before the focus shifts to the T20I series and the T20 World Cup 2026 to be held in India and Sri Lanka from February 7 onwards.
