Virat Kohli has managed to score only five runs in three games so far at the ICC T20 World Cup 2024.
India all-rounder Shivam Dube has played down the questions and concerns over the form of superstar batsman Virat Kohli at the ongoing ICC T20 World Cup 2024.
In India’s Group A matches, Kohli has recorded scores of scores of 1, 4, and 0 against Ireland, Pakistan and the USA respectively. Despite a lack of contribution with the bat from Kohli, the Men In Blue won all three games and ensured their position in the Super 8 round.
Having amassed over 700 runs in the Indian Premier League 2024, Kohli’s slump in form in the mega ICC event has been shocking, although the pitches in New York have been really tough for the batters of all teams.
“Who am I to talk about Virat Kohli?” Shivam Dube
Ahead of India’s last group stage match against Canada, Dube expressed no sign of worry over Kohli’s form in the ongoing tournament.
When asked about it, Dube replied, “Who am I to talk about Kohli? If he hasn’t got runs in three games, he may well get three hundreds in the next three and there will be no more discussions. We all know his game and how he plays.”
Dube had a good outing against the USA. The left-hander scored 31* runs and was involved in a match-winning partnership with Suryakumar Yadav after India’s chase had suffered early hiccups. He had struggled against Pakistan, managing only three runs but did well to play an impressive knock against the USA on a spicy pitch in New York.
He said, “I was struggling with my form and focusing on my process. But here, there was no pressure. All the support staff and coaches backed me and told me, ‘It’s difficult, but you have the ability to hit sixes, so apply it.’
“I’ve never doubted myself for what I’ve done in the past. I just think that these conditions do not demand what I’ve done at CSK. These conditions require a different approach, so I was batting differently today.”
