Virat Kohli scored 190 runs across nine innings in BGT 2024-25.

Reports of Virat Kohli’s possible retirement from test cricket have been doing the rounds in the media on Saturday, May 10. According to reports, Kohli has been in talks with Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) for over a month about retiring from the longest format.

However, some reports have also suggested that the BCCI has requested Kohli to reconsider his decision. Earlier on Wednesday (May 7), India ODI captain Rohit Sharma pulled down the curtains on his test career. Sharma was the skipper of the side in both tests and ODIs. However, the veteran Indian batter will now only represent the national side in the 50-over format. The 38-year-old retired from the T20Is last year in June.

Virat Kohli told teammates about test retirement during BGT- Reports

According to a report in the Times of India, Virat Kohli gave reminders to his teammates about his test retirement multiple times during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) 2024-25. Kohli had a challenging form with the bat in the series, except for a single game. The India vs Australia test series took place from November 22 last year to January 7, 2025.

India and Australia played a total of five matches during the series. The hosts Aussies crushed India 3-1 in the series to confirm their berth in ICC World Test Championship (WTC) 2023-25 final. Kohli struggled to come up with a marvellous batting show during the series. He mustered 190 runs across nine innings at an average of 23.75.

Interestingly, Virat Kohli commenced the series on a high note by smacking an unbeaten ton in the first test in Perth. However, he added just 85 runs across the other seven innings across four games. In the other seven innings, he registered poor scores of 7, 11, 3, 36, 5, 17, and 6.

Last year, he mustered 417 runs across 19 innings at an average of 24.52. He slammed just one century and one half-century during this period. However, Kohli is still considered a key member in the tests and ODIs. He was expected to be part of India tour of England 2025 in June, which will witness five test matches. Kohli made his debut in 2011 and has played a total of 123 tests for India so far.
