Virat Kohli, along with Rohit Sharma, haven’t played any cricket since IPL 2025.
The future of Virat Kohli, who last played an ODI for India in March this year, is in danger after a recent conversation with Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) chief selector Ajit Agarkar. Virat Kohli, along with Rohit Sharma, had retired from tests in May this year and from T20Is last year after the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 win.
Rohit Sharma, still the Indian ODI captain, and Virat Kohli last played for India in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 in Dubai. Since then, the Indian team hasn’t played any ODIs, as the Champions Trophy was followed by the Indian Premier League (IPL) and then the England test series.
The Indian team is currently playing in the Asia Cup 2025, which is being played in T20I format. India’s next ODI assignment will be next month, when they travel to Australia for a white-ball series that features three ODIs. After that, India will play South Africa at home in two tests, three ODIs, and five T20Is.
Virat Kohli’s absence from India An ODI squad for the Australia series is a huge concern

Rohit has started his preparations for the Australia tour by practicing with former Mumbai cricketer Abhishek Nayar. Virat has also begun preparation in London, where he now resides with his wife, Anushka Sharma, and kids.
They were supposed to play for India A against Australia in Bengaluru in 50-over games for practice, but their names were not included in the Men in Blue A squad.
Now, a RevSportz report has stated that Virat Kohli’s ODI future is still in doubt since chief selector Ajit Agarkar recently spoke with the seasoned batter about his intentions in the 50-over format. According to these sources, the lack of communication from Kohli’s end caused considerable despair.
The current ODI skipper is reportedly working hard to be ready for the three-match ODI series against Australia that begins on October 19, according to a video that the BCCI recently released of Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul practicing at the board’s Centre of Excellence (CoE) in Bengaluru.
