Virender Sehwag slammed Shakib Al Hasan after he scored just three runs against South Africa.
Former Indian cricketer Virender Sehwag has slammed Bangladesh veteran all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan following his poor outing against South Africa in the ongoing ICC T20 World Cup 2024 on June 10 at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in New York.
After being asked to bowl first, Bangladesh bowlers did a fantastic job of restricting the explosive Proteas batting line-up to 113/6 in 20 overs. Medium pacer Tanzim took a three-wicket haul, whereas speedster Taskin Ahmed bagged two wickets. For South Africa, Heinrich Klaasen slammed 46 runs and David Miller chipped in with 29 runs.
While chasing 114 runs on a tricky New York pitch, Bangladesh batters Towhid Hridoy (37) and Mahmudullah (20) scored crucial runs, but their side fell short by four runs. Proteas spinner Keshav Maharaj took a brilliant three-wicket haul. While pacers Kagiso Rabada and Anrich Nortje took two wickets each.
You are not Hayden or Gilchrist: Virender Sehwag on Shakib Al Hasan poor outing
In the match against South Africa, veteran all-rounder Shakib had a poor outing with the bat. The left-handed batter scored just three runs from four deliveries and was dismissed by Proteas pacer Nortje in the eighth over of the second innings. With the ball, Shakib just bowled one over and conceded six runs.
Following the game, cricketer-turned-commentator Sehwag took a brutal dig at Bangladesh all-rounder Shakib and said that he should at least spend some time at the wicket rather than play a rash shot. Sehwag added that Shakib is not Matthew Hayden or Adam Gilchrist, who can play pull shots easily.
“If he was included in the squad for experience, then we were not able to see it. At least spend some time at this wicket, it is not like you are not Hayden or Gilchrist who can play a pull shot of a short ball, you are just a player from Bangladesh,” Sehwag said while speaking on Cricbuzz.
