Virender Sehwag unlikely to apply to for India selector role for low pay package - Reports

According to reports, Virender Sehwag makes the cut as India's chairman of selectors, but he is unlikely to apply.
After Chetan Sharma's revealing sting operation, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is searching for the new chief selector. Chetan Sharma was sacked and the BCCI is working with Shiv Sunder Das as the interim chief selector at the moment. He is assisted by Subroto Banerjee, S Sharath and Salil Ankola. But the search for a new selector in chief is going on at the Indian Cricket Board.
There was a time when former Indian captains and big names served as chief selectors, like Dilip Vengsarkar (2006-2008) and Krishnamachari Srikkanth (2008-2012). But now, the BCCI can't attract big names for the post. According to a report by PTI, it confirms that the pay scale for the position offered is not attractive enough for big names to apply for the post. The current pay scale for the chief selector is INR 1 crore.
"Virender Sehwag was asked to apply for the job.."- BCCI Official
In a interaction a BCCI official told PTI that Virender Sehwag was asked about to apply for team's head coach but after that it was given to Anil Kumble. He also confirmed, "It is unlikely he will apply himself and also the pay package isn't something that will be financially viable for someone of his stature. But if we talk about stature, only he makes the cut from North Zone."
Furthermore, he also spoke on the importance of BCCI increasing the pay scale of the selection committee. He said that if the board can increase the scale to 4-5 crore, it will help attract big names to apply for the position. The BCCI official also highlighted how important it is to have someone who has a strong brain and can make difficult decisions when required as the chief selector.
He recalled the moment when former chief selector Dilip Vengsarkar made probably one of the biggest decisions in Indian cricket by picking Virat Kohli, and the rest is history. The official concluded, "Dilip bhai had to make a choice between S Badrinath and Virat Kohli. He saw a few India A games in Australia and he knew whom to back. Rest is history. He could stand his ground in front of Greg Chappell before that."
