After being sacked by the PCB from the selection committee, Wahab Riaz said he didn’t want to be part of any blame games.

On July 10, 2024, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) sacked Wahab Riaz and Abdul Razzaq from their respective positions in the selection committee, following the Men in Green’s group stage exit at the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 in June.

Under the leadership of Babar Azam, the Pakistan cricket team were knocked out of the T20 World Cup 2024 after failing to reach the Super 8 round of the tournament. The Men in Green suffered crushing defeats in Group A at the hands of co-hosts the United States of America and arch-rivals India.

After the group stage exit, PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi promised that a huge step would be taken to change Pakistan’s cricket structure.

With PCB chairman Naqvi promising a major surgery, it is safe to say that it has begun with the sacking of Riaz and Razzaq from the selection committee.

Recently, a new report in the Pakistan media emerged that Men in Green’s white-ball coach Gary Kirsten and assistant coach Azhar Mahmood submitted a report to the PCB after the poor show at the T20 World Cup 2024.

The report stated that ace pacer Shaheen Shah Afridi was accused of misbehaving with the coaches in recent Pakistan cricket tours. The report also added that the coaches have complained of lobbying in the Pakistan team as well.

Don’t want to be part of any blame games: Wahab Riaz

After the PCB sacked Wahab from his position, the former Pakistan pacer took to Twitter and reacted to the latest development, stating that he had a lot of things to say but didn’t want to be part of any blame games.

“My time serving as a member of the selection committee for PCB comes to an end. I just want my people to know that I have served the game I love with faith and sincerity and have given 100% for the betterment of Pakistan cricket. said Riaz in a statement.

“It has been an honour to serve as part of the selection panel. To make collaborative decisions as part of the 7-man panel to select the national team was a privilege – everyone’s vote carried equal weight, we made selection decisions as a team and shared the responsibility of that process equally. It was an honour to contribute my part to that,” he further added.

Riaz extends best wishes to Pakistan team

The former Pakistani player Wahab Riaz also expressed his honour in supporting white-ball head coach Kirsten and the coaching staff of the Men in Green. Riaz said that he is confident that the plans by the coaches will help the Pakistan team move ahead in the future.

“Moreover, it was an honour to support Gary Kirsten and the coaching group as they set their vision for this team. I am confident that the team plans the coaches have put together will ensure this team continues to grow into a dominant force as we move forward and I wish them the best of luck on that journey. I am thankful to the people who have prayed for me. I wish nothing but success for the future of the Pakistan cricket team,” Riaz concluded his message.
