Prithvi Shaw remains the youngest Indian opener to score a century on Test debut.

Prithvi Shaw is considered to be one of the most talented young cricketers in India and it was proof of his talent that he was handed the India Test debut at the age of just 18 and he justified his selection with a brilliant century in his first Test against West Indies in 2018.

He was supposed to be India’s aggressor on the tour of Australia that year, but he hurt his ankle ahead of the Test series and couldn’t take further part and returned home. Since then, Prithvi Shaw has been given chances to prove himself, but his so-called technical shortcomings have led to him being unable to hold onto his place in the team.

The young batter from Mumbai also had to deal with several off-the-field distractions as well, be it his issue to cough syrup which landed in trouble with NADA, and the most recent face-off with a female influencer which got major eyeballs.

His IPL returns for the Delhi Capitals in the recent 2023 edition were also meager and there have been questions raised about his ability to turn his talent into reality or become a case of what could’ve been.

The 23-year-old only managed to score 106 runs in eight matches with a dismal strike rate of 124.71.

I need to work hard and score runs – Prithvi Shaw

However, Prithvi Shaw, who captained India to the 2018 U19 World Cup win, has said that he aims to play 12-14 years for the Indian team and knows what he needs to do in order to achieve his goal.

“All the hard work is just for that. That is the one dream - I want to play, at least 12-14 years for India. I want to win the World Cup for India. That is there [one big goal], I need to achieve that in my life. I need to work hard and score runs. That's the only way to get there. I am trying, let's see,” Shaw said in an interview with Cricbuzz.

Unfortunately for Shaw, the chances of making that dream come true are becoming lesser and lesser as he was not named in the Indian squad for the Asian Games 2023 in which several of the IPL performers have been included with Ruturaj Gaikwad leading the side.
