Abhishek Sharma was for 48 runs off 21 balls in KKR vs SRH clash of IPL 2026.

In match 6 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) take on each other in Kolkata at the iconic Eden Gardens. Both teams enter the contest on the back of disappointing results in their respective openers.

For SRH, it was a brutal performance by the defending champions Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), who chased down a massive target without breaking a sweat. KKR meanwhile, faced the wrath of the Mumbai Indians (M), who too hunted down a 220+ target easily.

Both SRH and KKR struggled in their bowling department, making tonight’s clash even more interesting. Rahane, the home skipper won the toss and had no hesitation to bowl first.

Arguably the most destructive opening combination of IPL 2026, Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma showed why they are such a great duo, early against KKR’s bowlers. The pair combined to smash 82 runs before Head fell only four runs shy of his 50.

Captain Ishan Kishan walked out aiming to build on the foundation laid by the openers. Kishan was the star of the show for his team against RCB, nearly single-handedly helping his team to a respectable total. However he departed cheaply for just 14. Soon Abhishek Sharma fell in pursuit of quick runs.

Just one ball after Kishan’s fall, Sharma picked up a slower ball from Blessing Muzarabani, and hit the ball towards deep square leg where Varun Chakaravarthy was placed. Generally not the best fielder on the park, Chakaravarthy got down to grab the ball.

However, the question was if the ball bounced on the ground before being collected by the fielder, or fell straight into the fielder’s hands. Third umpire Nitin Menon had multiple camera angles before adjudging Sharma out, claiming “fielders are under the ball”.

Debates will continue whether the decision was a fair one or not, however, the final decision seemed justified and appropriate from what the replays suggested. Sharma and Klassen were both unhappy with the verdict, but the Indian opener had to eventually accept his fate.
