Rajat Patidar got out on a controversial catch by Jason Holder in GT vs RCB clash in Ahmedabad.

Match 42 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 is currently underway at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. The defending champion, Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), are in action against Gujarat Titans (GT). The game began with Shubman Gill winning the toss and electing to bowl first.

It proved to be a decent decision as RCB lost half of their side within the 10-over mark. Virat Kohli looked good for his 28 off 13 balls but got out in order to accelerate the scoring rate. RCB did have a 44-run stand for the third wicket between Devdutt Padikkal and captain Rajat Patidar.

But the partnership was broken with a terrific catch by Jason Holder at the boundary line. However, the catch also brought some controversy. The RCB camp wasn’t seen happy with the decision, and coach Andy Flower and Virat Kohli were seen talking to the third umpire near the boundary line.

Patidar had a good start and was at 19 off 14 balls when he skied a ball off Arshad Khan. This was the fourth delivery of the 8th over, and the ball bloomed up in the air. Holder and Kagiso Rabada came charging towards the ball.

Eventually, Holder held on to the catch while diving. The decision went upstairs, and the third umpire ruled it in favor of the bowler. However, the replays clearly showed that the ball was touching the ground, which was the reason that RCB management wasn’t happy.

But the third umpire gave it out. Notably, as per the law, if the fielder is in full control of the catch, it should be given out. That is what the umpire conveyed to the on-field umpire. The ball did touch the grass, but Holder was deemed to have full control.

All in all, it was an excellent diving catch from the Holder, which broke RCB’s momentum as they lost four wickets for just 17 runs. From 79/2, they were reduced to 96/6 in just 17 balls.

Who won the toss in the GT vs RCB match 42 of the Indian Premier League 2026?
