Washington Sundar ruled out of IPL 2023 with a hamstring injury
Sunrisers Hyderabad's all-rounder Washington Sundar out of remainder of the IPL 2023.
Sunrisers Hyderabad's all-rounder, Washington Sundar has been ruled out of the remainder of IPL 2023 due to a hamstring injury as confirmed by the franchise on Thursday. This will be a huge blow to the management as the all-rounder was just hitting the right notes for the team with his latest exploits against Delhi Capitals (DC).
The injuries concerns for the Tamil Nadu player have been a worrisome issue for a long time. Grappling with injuries since 2021, right after his exploits in the Gabba Test against Australia and the Ahmedabad Test against England, he suffered a finger injury while fielding for a County side in a warm-up game against India at Chester le Street. It ruled him out of the Tests against England, the second half of the IPL as well as the T20 World Cup in the UAE.
Previously, he injured his left shoulder after landing heavily on it while fielding in a Royal London One-Day Cup game for Lancashire and missed the tour of Zimbabwe. He also suffered a similar hamstring injury last February that forced him to miss T20Is at home against West Indies and subsequently missed a bunch of games for SRH with a hand injury.
Washington Sundar has been a part of the SRH team for all seven of their games so far. After remaining wicketless in the first six games, Sundar finally grabbed a few wickets against DC with the figures of 3 for 24. With the bat too, Sundar notched up his highest score of the season - 24* runs off 15 balls. Almost taking his team to a victory with his all-around skills, SRH fell short of the target resulting in three consecutive losses in the bounce.
SRH on the road seeks revenge against Delhi Capitals
Sunrisers Hyderabad have now lost three games in a row which has dropped them down to the second-last position in the Points Table. Their latest defeat came against Delhi Capitals in a low-scoring affair at home. Chasing a paltry total of 144 runs, the team lost the game by 7 runs. Washington Sundar was the star of the night for SRH with his three wickets in an over and a quick cameo of 24* runs in just 15 balls.
Traveling to the Capital city, Delhi, SRH will hope to break the string of their losses and gain momentum with a win under their belt. With seven more games to go, this will be a crucial game for both sides to get things going for them if they have to find a place in the top four.
