Former Indian opener Wasim Jaffer criticized Michael Vaughan.

Former Indian cricketer Wasim Jaffer has roasted England’s Michael Vaughan after his team’s humiliating loss to men in blue in the recent ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 match, which was played in Lucknow on Sunday.

Jos Buttler, who won the toss, chose to bowl first. David Willey got three wickets and India reached a total of 229/9 in 50 overs. Rohit Sharma scored 87 runs for India, Suryakumar Yadav scored 49 runs, and KL Rahul scored 39 runs.

Many expected England to easily chase down the meager target, but Mohammad Shami (4/22) and Jasprit Bumrah (3 wickets) had other plans. They shared seven wickets between them, with Kuldeep Yadav taking two.

In response, Jasprit Bumrah began a wicket-taking spree, dismissing Dawid Malan (16) and Joe Root (0) off successive deliveries. And then Mohammad Shami put the last nail in England's coffin.

He got the wickets of Jonny Bairstow (14), Ben Stokes (0), Moeen Ali (15), and Adil Rashid. Shami ended his 7-overs spell with 4/22. Liam Livingstone top-scored with 27, but Kuldeep Yadav got the wicket of Jos Buttler.

India triumphed by 100 runs and, with 12 points from six wins, has almost certainly qualified for the semi-finals.

'I think England can still qualify,' says Wasim Jaffer’s dig at Michael Vaughan

In the aftermath of the defeat, it was revealed that the qualification criteria for the ICC Champions Trophy in 2025 had been unveiled by ICC. As per the criteria, the top 7 teams, along with hosts Pakistan, will qualify for the tournament. These seven teams will be the ones who finish from No. 1 to No. 7 positions in the ongoing ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 and 8th positioned team if Pakistan end up in top 7.

With England now in 10th position, they are in severe danger of missing out on the ICC Champions Trophy 2025.

Wasim Jaffer used this information to take a huge dig at Vaughan and posted: “Cheer up @MichaelVaughan  I think England can still qualify... For Champions Trophy 2025 by finishing in top 7 🤞🏽😏 #INDvENG #CWC2023”
