[Watch] Aaron Jones' emotional celebration after hitting match-winning six vs Canada

Aaron Jones sealed the USA vs CAN match 1 of the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 with his blistering knock of 94* off 40 balls.

The ICC T20 World Cup 2024 got underway with an entertaining USA vs CAN match on Saturday night in Dallas, with hosts USA registering a stunning win by seven wickets, courtesy of Aaron Jones‘ sensational knock of 94* runs in 40 balls.

This was the maiden appearance for both the USA and Canada in ICC T20 World Cup history. Monank Patel’s team emerged victorious in the contest at the Grand Prairie Stadium, as the USA chased down 195 in 17.4 overs. Jones blasted 10 sixes in his spectacular innings and supporting him was Andries Gous, who hit 65 off 46. The duo shared a partnership of 131 (58) for the third wicket.

Monank won the toss and elected to bowl first in Dallas in the opening game of the competition. Canada scored 194 runs, which was until then the highest total by an associate team in T20 World Cup history. Only 17.4 overs later, the record was broken as Jones stunned Canada.

For Canada, there were two half-centurions: Navneet Dhaliwal scored 61 runs in 44 balls and Nicholas Kirton scored 51 runs in 31 balls. Wicket-keeper Shreyas Movva provided a strong finish with 32* off 16 balls.

In the chase, the USA slipped to 42/2 in the seventh over before Jones and Gous forged a jaw-dropping partnership littered with a series of fours and sixes. Jones smoked 10 sixes and four fours, while Gous clattered seven fours and three sixes.

Jones finished the match with a six off Nikhil Dutta. With four runs needed, the right-handed batter slogged Dutta for a gigantic six over deep mid-wicket. As he hit the winning runs, Jones sank to his knees and raised his arms to the sky before letting out a huge roar. The crowd at the Grand Prairie Stadium were up on their feet in celebration.
