Andre Russell took a wicket in the first over he bowled against Uganda.

Apart from his batting pyrotechnics, Andre Russell has unlocked a new level in his bowling. After contributing heavily to Kolkata Knight Riders’ title win in the Indian Premier League 2024 season, Russell has started off superbly with the ball for the West Indies also in the ICC T20 World Cup 2024.

The right-arm speedster delivered an unplayable delivery to Uganda’s Robinson Obuya during the WI vs UGA match on Saturday night in Guyana.

At the Providence Stadium, the hosts West Indies defeated Uganda by a huge margin of 134 runs. Now they have two wins in two games and one more win in their next two matches will seal their spot in Super 8.

In their victory over Uganda, Russell smashed 30* runs off 17 balls before dismissing Robinson Obuya with what could be called a perfect ball as it hit the top of the off-stump after coming into the batter.

On the first ball he bowled in the game, Russell sent down an absolute gem of a delivery to Obuya. The ball came into the batter and pitched just outside the off-stump on a good length. Obuya didn’t use his feet and looked to defend it with a slanted bat. However, the ball beat his outside edge and clattered into the top of the off-stump.

Talking about the match, the hero with the ball for the West Indies was left-arm spinner Akeal Hosein, who recorded outstanding figures of 5/11 in West Indies’ defence of 173. Uganda were bowled out for only 39 runs.

Hosein’s 5/11 are the best bowling figure for West Indies in the T20 World Cup, surpassing 4/15 by Samuel Badree against Bangladesh in 2014.
