Watch: England's new 'Umbrella' plan to dismiss Usman Khawaja

Usman Khawaja scored 141 runs to power Australia close to England's first innings total at Edgbaston.
Since The Ashes began, Australia and England have been at the top of their games in the first test at Edgbaston. A see-saw kind of battle is on in Birmingham and both teams have challenged each other with equal might. To win Cricket’s oldest rivalry, strategies have to be on top, an example cricket fans saw on day 3 in the morning session. Usman Khawaja stood like a wall against the English pace battery and smashed his 15th test ton. Khawaja added a few brilliant partnerships for Australia to take them closer to what England had scored. As Khawaja was looking for a big score, Ollie Robinson with a unique field set and planning sent Khawaja back.
England's 'Umbrella' plan
When England realised the danger of Khawaja who was going strong, the England captain along with pacer Ollie Robinson set a unique umbrella field. Stokes called 6 men up and close to the wicket covering the pads to the cover region. On both sides around Khawaja, three fielders were there in catching position. This made Khawaja vulnerable and he stepped out in the next ball against Robinson, who delivered a crushing yorker that went on to rattle left-handers off stump. Standing just 19 runs away from England’s score, Australia lost his 7th wicket as Usman Khawaja.

England made a comeback after Khawaja’s dismissal and took 21 balls to bundle out Australia on 386, ending with a lead of mere 7 runs. Ollie Robinson also gave a send-off to Usman Khawaja after getting him castled in his bowling. Few fans and experts criticised Robinson’s send-off to Khawaja. Talking about it, Robinson said, “I think when you are in the heat of the moment and you have the passion of the Ashes that can happen… we have all seen Ricky Ponting and other Aussie do the same to us so just because the shoe’s on the other side it’s not received well”.
