Afghanistan pacer Fazalhaq Farooqi took a five-wicket haul against Uganda.

Afghanistan seamer Fazalhaq Farooqi was on fire in their ICC T20 World Cup 2024 match against Uganda as he claimed sensational figures of 5/9 in his four-over spell. Defending their total of 183, Farooqi’s efforts helped Afghanistan bowl Uganda out for only 58 runs.

Afghanistan and Uganda, both of whom are placed in Group C, met on Monday evening at the Providence Stadium, Guyana, where the Asian team recorded a huge victory by 125 runs.

After half-centuries from Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Ibrahim Zadran, it was left-arm pacer Fazalhaq Farooqi who starred with the ball with a terrific five-wicket haul that thumped the African nation.

Fazalhaq Farooqi takes down Uganda opener Ronak Patel with a beautiful inswinger

The left-arm seamer gave his team their first breakthrough with the wicket of Uganda opener Ronak Patel, through a beautiful inswinger.

He bowled a length delivery that swung in and pitched on the middle stump. Ronak looked to play it straight but couldn’t cover the line of the ball after the movement. The ball sneaked through the bat-pad gap and clattered into the leg stump.

Patel looked behind to see the mess of his stumps as Farooqi began his celebration.

On the next delivery, Farooqi got rid of Roger Mukasa for a duck via lbw with a yorker. He returned in the 13th over to take three wickets in an over as Uganda slipped further on their T20 World Cup debut.

The Rashid Khan-led side will next face Kane Williamson’s New Zealand in Guyana on June 7.
